I came across this bit about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad being berated by some right of right-wing Islamists because of his indecent behavior with an elderly teacher.
Then I realized why so many in the West have a visceral reaction against the Islam of the Taliban, et al: it is a modern caricature of the West's Dark Ages.
