October in our Detroit suburb resembled November for much of the time. The month was 3.5° below the 30-year average... which I guess will make it about "normal" for NOAA when they come out with their 118-year rankings. Incidentally, we did not set an October monthly low for our location. That record is 21° F. Our 2008 October low only reached 22° F. But as you can see, a couple of times, the daily mean was lower than the 30-year average low.
Since February, this area has averaged 2.0° below the 30-year average. Only September was at close... within 0.1°... of that average. It is safe to say that regardless what happens in November and December, 2008 will go down as a year of cooling.
