WASHINGTON — As the Senate banking committee debated a potential rescue package for American automakers, the committee chairman, Senator Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut, suggested that it would be difficult for lawmakers to approve a financial lifeline for the three companies.That's really quite interesting. Congress is willing to let the U.S. manufacturers have $25 billion for research to meet Congress' arbitrary CAFE requirements... even though it will cost closer to $100 billion... but will not approve a $25 billion loan for those same companies to stay in business.
