Yesterday's post about the behavior of certain Detroit City Council members highlighted the tribal mentality that has driven humans apart since mankind left the trees. One element of that tribalism is the need to identify outsiders. In this case, a white union member was the "outsider" of choice. The "white" Obama was considered an "insider" because he was identified as a "black" Obama. This fit the emotional needs of those Council members who pride themselves on their black achievements for the city.
If, however, we examine the premise of their claim to Pres. Obama, we might get a glimpse into what is truly aberrant about their thinking which is that the only part of Pres. Obama that is black is a sperm donor who may or may not have been from Kenya who abandoned him before or after his birth that may or may not have occurred in Hawaii. The rest of Pres. Obama's upbringing he owes to the white women who gave him life, raised him to understand and appreciate the value of an education and who he promptly ignored once he got involved with black religious and political radicals.
Well, maybe that last part does make him a black man based at least in part on the Detroit model. Still, I'd say their claim to him as part of their tribe was shaky at best.
