SEARCH BLOG: ENERGY
Yesterday, just about dinner time, a young man came to the door soliciting funds for some clean air and clean water group. We've given donations in the past. He wanted me to sign some sheet.
When I started reading, the first sentence was all about shutting down "dirty coal" power plants and replacing them with alternative energy. Wrong house to stop at!
I simply said that I was not interested in donating to any group that was willing to jeopardize my children's and grandchildren's economic future on shutting down dependable energy sources for expensive, unreliable alternatives... no mention of nuclear power. The water and air quality in Michigan is quite good. We all pay plenty for it. We don't need to undermine the economic foundation of this country to support somebody's political lobbying that we need to go back to some Camelot version of a pristine environment.
Camelot was during the Dark Ages and the environment was hardly pristine. It is this naive glorification of an ideal past ... or future ... that gets us all into trouble.
