Saturday, I wrote about how a keyboard for the iPhone would enhance its usefulness, but the one that could be available had not been approved by Apple.
About the same time, Apple briefly offered an application [program] for the iPhone that would allow it to act as a wireless network for a laptop computer. That lasted a few hours and was pulled from the shelf.
The iPhone is my first experience with an Apple product. Overall, I think it is a wonderfully useful tool that isn't quite there... and it is apparent that Apple is doing its best to prevent anyone from improving upon it. They must have plans for "upgrades" that you can purchase for another few hundred dollars sometime in the future... after competitors bring them online.
So, Saturday when I wrote, "Meanwhile, using my iPhone with the virtual keyboard is like having a Corvette with a 100 hp 4 cylinder engine. It'll get you there, but it's no fun"... I should have said "with a 100 hp 4 cylinder engine and tube tires."
Apple has the marketing down pat. It simply needs to figure how to deliver a product that is up to the hype.For now, I'll stick to my Vista-powered laptop to get real work done... and the iPhone will remain a potentially useful product.
