Let's see if we can state that just a little more clearly. How about:Promising to nominate a replacement with “a sharp and independent mind and a record of excellence and integrity,” Mr. Obama, who startled reporters by walking to the lectern for a cameo appearance in the middle of the daily White House press briefing, said that he would look for a candidate “who understands that justice isn’t about some abstract legal theory or footnote in a case book.”
“I will seek somebody who shares my respect for constitutional values on which this nation was founded, and who brings a thoughtful understanding of how to apply them in our time,” Mr. Obama said.
I want someone who shares my feelings that law isn't about what is written, but rather about how we want things to be. We should not feel bound by what the Constitution says, although we should say we respect it. This is a new day, a new time, and we have to interpret justice in a new way.Yeah, that about sums it up.
This is how it will work. Just because you have a contract protected by written law doesn't mean that you will be protected by the law... if you are preventing "justice" from happening.
