August continued the string of abnormally cool months in southeastern Michigan. Despite a brief mid-month warming, overall temperatures were more like June normal temperatures. The average temperature here was 2.2°F colder than normal.
The 19-month variance from normal was 2.64°F below normal. The 3-month variance for June - August was 4.4°F below normal. That is significant.
There have been 155 more day below normal than above since February 2008... or 63.4% of the days were below normal. That is significant.
Nevertheless, we are talking about weather... not climate. As I have indicated many times, there is no significant change in U.S. climate. There have been climate oscillations and we may be entering the cooling phase of these oscillations quite possibly driven by a lethargic sun. That will be readily apparent in a few years if the weather continues this pattern.
