2009 Preliminary All-Time Statewide Monthly Temperature Records

SEARCH BLOG: GLOBAL WARMING

A check of the National Climatic Data Center records for 2009 revealed that there were no all-time, statewide, monthly high or low temperature records set for the United States.

The database from the NCDC showed the following number of weather stations included in the reports:

Station Count For All-Time Monthly Records

Max. High Min. Low
Jan 145,875 152,419*
Feb 92,812 92,264
Mar 110,031 148,003
Apr 175,634 177,291
May 186,425 191,452
Jun 179,744 183,805
Jul 184,663 189,227
Aug 184,317 189,167
Sep 178,261 182,857
Oct 186,578 192,140
Nov 186,578 186,031
Dec 186,092 191,099
May-Dec Average 184,082 188,222
* As noted in yesterday's post, there is some question about the missing all-time record minimum for Maine set in January about which we are attempting to get clarification.

Additionally, the stations used for reporting maximum temperatures appear to have duplicated the October set for November. While this duplication may have been identified, there appears to have been no effort to correct the problem in the publically available data.

This does little inspire confidence in the data upon which public policy is being built.
