Subsidizing Subsidized Alternative Energy

SEARCH BLOG: ENERGY

With all of the efforts by state and federal governments to make alternative energy competitve [read that as "subsidizing"], you'd think that electric companies would be doing pretty well moving into that arena. Well, maybe not.

We just received this letter from DTE [formerly Detroit Edison] asking for monthly contributions. [click image for larger view]

For those who might not read the letter closely, DTE is not saying that those who contribute will have their electricity generated from these "green" sources. This is supposed to be a "feel good" program that generates income for DTE.

If 18,000 people are paying $2.50 per month for the privilege of "being greener," that is generating $540,000 annually in feel-good cash.

Wow! A sucker born every minute.
