No Wind In Our Sails

SEARCH BLOG: ENERGY

Being politically correct seems to have the implication of inherent stupidity to many people.  Perhaps that stereotype is justified in some respect:
Lake turbine plan hits rough seas
Sailors, waterfront residents oppose wind generators
Jim Lynch / The Detroit News
A Canadian company's plan to place hundreds of wind turbines in Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie has more than a few people on both sides of the border up in arms.
Lynn Kotwicki is one of them. The Royal Oak resident has raced sailboats on Lake St. Clair for years and can't understand why anyone would think it was the right place to generate electricity from wind.
"We've had three races canceled in the last 10 days," she said. "And each time, it was because there was no wind." [read more]
It is the right place for wind turbines because it creates a highly visible symbol of change... change you can almost believe in.

The argument for wind turbines is that they provide clean, renewable energy.  Aside from the manufacturing in China and the shipping across the ocean and the never-reach-breakeven-taxpayer-subsidized costs and the unreliable nature of the system, wind turbine power represents a great leap forward in energy production.  Actually, the costs can be recovered quickly if competitive energy sources are eliminated and the price for wind turbine generated electricity is increased dramatically.

Great Leaps Forward have their costs.
