Gingrich touts no-tax zone to revive Detroit

Mackinac Island — Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich told business and civic lead ers Wednesday the way to restore hope for Detroit is to forgo taxes citywide.
The Georgia Republican pro posed in his kickoff speech for the Detroit Regional Chamber Mack inac Policy Conference that a city wide enterprise zone with no tax es on investment or capital gains would upgrade the value of property.
“The problems of Detroit are sufficiently large, we ought to have a 10-year tax holiday,” he said in his 45-minute address. [read more]Mr. Gingrich has been reading this blog:
The state should then allow all of the downsized Detroit to be a special enterprise zone that is exempt from all state taxes and is a "right to work" zone... in return for no other state subsidies.
