Headline:  New EPA Rule Could Shut Down A Ton Of The Nation's Power Plants  [Let's presume there is some air quality benefit that vastly outweighs the loss of more than 14 gigawatts of power generation that serves 22 million households.]
Let's spell this out for you ... just in case by some inexplicable reason you don't see the obvious ... what this means:  The United States government has its collective heads up their collective asses.
Step 1:  Mandate something for which you have no idea how it can be accomplished.

Step 2:  Spend billions of taxpayer dollars backing solutions for that which you mandated which are so risky that you could not find a private investor stupid enough to use his own money.

Step 3:  Burn your bridges behind you and hope for the best.

What's Your Plan?

So, the government is mandating changes to our electrical grid that will result in less energy being available at a higher cost... and is trying to find the solutions for its mandate using taxpayer money in very questionable investments.  See, government can do it better than private enterprise.
