Apple's Latest Invention - Rounded Corners

If there is any doubt about the irrationality of our legal system, one only has to look at this:

Apple Wins A Patent For Rounded Corners.

Oh, yes, that is serious.
Apple owns patent D670,286, which is "The ornamental design for a portable display device."
That means it really does just cover the rounded edges of the iPad. "There's no other way to look at it," says Macari.
I would have thought that could apply to the rounded corners of my old Dell laptop.  The corners are rounded and they surround the screen and it is portable.  Maybe Dell lawyers were just not on the ball.

I'm wondering if I can get a patent for "The ornamental design for the shape of granulated table salt."

Can you see lawsuits coming? I'm guessing this "ornamental design for a portable display device" is in  direct infringement of that Apple patent.
