I sent the following note to my sister-in-law:
I wonder how many sermons at Catholic churches will be about "defense of the faith" this coming Sunday?After all, the requirement for churches to fund birth control/abortion insurance for any of their related organizations and activities outside of the "houses of worship" constitutes a direct attack on their freedom from religious persecution in order to defend the Constitutional right of women to get free insurance for contraceptives and abortions... I read that women had that right somewhere in the Constitution, right? Freedom from unwanted kids... for free? Well, maybe I got that part wrong, but Obamacare has to do what Obamacare has to do.
Regardless, other churches seem to be taking up the banner if the Catholic church doesn't.
Pastors pledge to defy IRS, preach politics from pulpit ahead of election
More than 1,000 pastors are planning to challenge the IRS next month by deliberately preaching politics ahead of the presidential election despite a federal ban on endorsements from the pulpit.
The defiant move, they hope, will prompt the IRS to enforce a 1954 tax code amendment that prohibits tax-exempt organizations, such as churches, from making political endorsements. Alliance Defending Freedom, which is holding the October summit, said it wants the IRS to press the matter so it can be decided in court.
