Golf Versus Government

SEARCH BLOG: GOLF and GOVERNMENT
Golf is an unusual game and one that goes against the grain of our Federal government... even though the current and many former presidents have taken the time to play it.

Golf is about the individual; the government is about the masses.

Golf seldom changes the rules; the government makes up new rules every day.

Golf is played against a standard - par; the government recognizes no standard against which it is judged - except at elections and not always then.

Golf requires honor, honesty, and openness; the government makes deals behind closed doors and grants "earmarks" inside of laws that are read after they are passed.

Golf does not allow "do-overs"; the government makes the same mistakes over and over and prints whatever money it needs to continue making those mistakes.

Golf demands courtesy and respect for your opponents; the government sees its opposition as enemies to be assailed personally and publicly.

Golf requires acceptance of your own shortcomings; the government prefers to blame the previous administration.

Golf is designed to make participants experience both triumph and failure with equanimity; the government tries to penalize the winners and reward the losers and calls it "fairness."

Golf can be with a person for a lifetime; the government, fortunately, can be changed every four years.
