EXCLUSIVE: Homeland Security Agents Forced to do Muslim Sensitivity Training on Eve of 9/11

Well, I think that should be a reciprocal program.  Muslims should be required to take sensitivity training about non-Muslims.  And if they don't or refuse, then the Muslim sensitivity program should be cancelled.  Let's start with all imams.  Classes will be taught by rabbis.  Refreshments will be served by Oscar Mayer.

We believe in fairness.

A Short Trip To Wisconsin

SEARCH BLOG: VACATIONS

It's been a few years since I've been to Wisconsin... an overall beautiful state.  We had a chance to see some old friends and travel through some idyllic towns and farmland.  If you have the opportunity to visit this state, there are a number of nice places to see, but two gems are Lake Geneva and Oconomowoc.  Beautiful grand homes and grounds along blue lakes make you simply want to get out of your car and walk around.

Later today, we'll have our reunion along the shores of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee.  It's' a city that has grown and changed over the decades.  Like all major cities, it has its warts, but it has a lot of good points, too.  Still, given a choice, I'd not hesitate to take the calm beauty of those smaller towns.

Getting An iPhone 5

SEARCH BLOG: IPHONE.

Having three sons who are all technologically proficient can be both beneficial and amusing.  My wife has been after me for quite awhile to replace our old iPhone 3 models and I've dragged my heels for one reason or another... mainly because the old phones work fine and I don't have the need to get the latest and greatest gizmo.

We have a family plan to share minutes and that works well.  But our youngest son doesn't share our patience when it comes to "cutting edge."  When the iPhone 3 came out, he dragged me down to the apple store early in the morning and we stood in line for a couple hours just to get the phones on the first day.  I wasn't interested in repeating that.  Yesterday, as we were driving along I-94 in Chicago, he phoned to let me know that we could order the new iPhone 5 online if we did so at 3:00 AM ET.  Needless to say, I didn't express any enthusiasm to do that.  I told him he was welcome to handle that since he had all of the account information.  He has had the 3G and the 4, and the 4G models so I knew he was ready for something new.

At 3:41 AM, according to the time stamp on the email, he forwarded an order confirmation that the phones were ordered and we would be receiving them in about a week.  My wife was thrilled.  She gets the white phone and I get the black one so that we can identify which belongs to whom.  I'm thrilled that I don't have to listen to the reminders that I promised to get her a new phone when the iPhone 5 came out.  I'm somewhat amused that the opportunity to order a cell phone could keep him up all night.

Thanks, son.

Media Tries To Fault Romney For Faulting Obama About Embassy Attacks

SEARCH BLOG: OBAMA and ROMNEY

The U.S. was physically attacked again on 9/11.  Yes, this U.S. soil was located in both Egypt and Libya, but it was part of the U.S. since U.S. embassies were on that soil.

Mitt Romney was critical of the initial response which tried to deflect the fact that it was an attack on the U.S. with a statement about the obscure film which was purported to be the flimsy excuse for the attacks.  Romney wasn't the only one who was critical of the State Department's Casper Milktoast response.

From Reuters:

Blasting Obama on Libya [they are so grateful for U.S. aid in removing Qaddafi] and Egypt,  [they are so grateful for U.S. aid in removing Mubarak] Romney accused of opportunism

Yet, from The New York Times:

Egypt May Be Bigger Concern Than Libya for White House
By HELENE COOPER and MARK LANDLER 5:03 AM ET
The tepid response from the Egyptian government to violence at the embassy in Cairo worried American officials.

What did The New York Times expect when the U.S. response was tepid... at best?

And BBC reports:

US embassy in Yemen stormed in film protest.  Protesters could be seen climbing over the gates of the embassy compound
The U.S. has to realize that this is still part of the Islamists' general war against the west.  No apology or excuses will have any impact and will only be seen as weakness to further encourage the Islamists.  If the governments of these countries in which the attacks occurred have "tepid" or no response, then perhaps it is time for the military aid and those billion dollar "debt forgiveness" deals to be rescinded... immediately.

With allies like that, who needs enemies?  But then, that doesn't coincide with Obama's world view where Islamic totalitarianism is our future friend and Israel is an annoyance.

Travel Break

SEARCH BLOG: TRAVEL

We've done some traveling this year.  Two three-week trips to San Francisco and a 10-day trip to St. Augustine.  This one is shorter... 4 days to Wisconsin for a class reunion.  We were not really all that enthusiastic about going, but we have some family and friends in the area so this is a good excuse for the trip.  Without them, we would have passed on the reunion.

We haven't attended any previous reunions for a variety of reasons.  I'm sure it will be interesting to see all of those old people... especially since I've hardly changed at all.  Hey, I can still get into my Air Force uniform and am barely over my college wrestling weight.  Yeah, the hair is thinner and the face has some weathering lines and I creak sometimes in the morning... and maybe some of the weight has shifted.  But I've hardly changed at all.  No, I don't intend to have a wresting match for old times sake.

My wife, of course, will be the most beautiful one there.  No, really, I didn't have to say that.

Anyway, posting will be sparse for a few days.

White House: Obama Won’t Meet Israeli PM on US Visit

 September 11th, 2012 at 4:50 pm
UPDATE:
Prime Minister Netanyahu, when last at the White House and during an extended period of private conversation with “Obama”, implored the president to be far more forceful in his public comments regarding the United States’ devotion to Israel’s safety and protection and its very right to exist.  Netanyahu warned the president that his administration’s half-hearted gestures of friendship to Israel were in fact emboldening the more radicalized elements in the Middle East and thus endangering not only Israeli lives, but the lives of everyone in that part of the world.  And then he also remarked this condition would further endanger American citizens within the United States as well, that the capitulation policies of the American government in the 1990s were instrumental in forming the attack of September 11th, 2001.
Obama’s reaction to these words were, “agitation followed by derision”.  The president then leaned toward the Prime Minister and said:
“You have just as much blood on your hands as they do.  They got a right to exist as well.  Everybody does.  And I don’t want this thing…this back and forth…you and them…I don’t want this turning into an election issue for me, right?  I can’t be telling those people how to treat your country any more than you want me telling you how to treat them, right?  You see where I’m at in this?
Don’t you turn this into something that might take away Jewish votes for me.  That’s what you got going here – I know what you’re up to.  Don’t do it.  This thing…Iran…don’t try…don’t  hurt me politically with it.  You need us.  We don’t need you.”
Now I must put that statement by Obama further into context to ensure you realize the stunning implications of what he was communicating to the Israeli Prime Minister.   Netanyahu had spent considerable effort attempting to detail to the Obama what Israeli intelligence had gathered regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities.  He had also warned of the very real and serious threat of nuclear materials being handed over to terrorists both capable and willing of detonation in other parts of the world, including inside the United States.  The Prime Minister indicated his own government was unwilling to take that risk, and was preparing to take very specific measures to try and ensure Iran was not given that option to do so.  And to that Obama, this man so tragically elected president, to that he replied to Netanyahu to not make this an election issue for him? To not make it something that might take away Jewish votes from him?  [READ FULL ARTICLE]

Obama Versus Arab Spring: 0 For 2

SEARCH BLOG: OBAMA.

President Obama's penchant for supporting Islamic revolutions has resulted in the countries where he actively helped force those revolutions coming back to bite the U.S. in the ass.

Have you forgotten already?  Obama actively helped with the ouster of Egypt's Hosni Mubarak and Libya's Muammar Gaddafi... not the nicest of men.  But the process was uncontrolled and the results were predictable: the U.S. is now the target of Islamic revolutionaries in both of those countries.

This is what happens when you have a bunch of bumbling amatuers at the helm of our "Ship of the State Department"...

  • U.S. Embassy in Egypt attacked
  • President Obama remains in Las Vegas for his campaign schedule

Rahm Emanuel Does A Scott Walker On Chicago Teachers

SEARCH BLOG: TEACHERS

Rahm Emanuel of "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste" fame, now is walking in the shoes of those he used to condemn and doesn't like it. [image]

The Chicago Tribune reports:

Clark Street in front of CPS headquarters in the Loop is a sea of red-shirted teachers chanting and waving signs.
"Hey Rahm, how many kids in your child's classroom?" one sign read. Another said, "Use your outdoor voice."
"Hey, hey, ho, ho. Rahm Emanuel has got to go," they chanted.
Many in the peaceful crowd said they were surprised at how many teachers showed up to rally.
"This is an amazing display of democracy," said Rick Sawicki, a 7th grade teacher at Evergreen Middle School. "It is a wonderful lesson for children and adults alike. I'm honored that we are all sticking together. We all want what is fair. We want to make sure everyone is treated fairly, just like I teach my children."
What happened to that liberal idealogue?  Geez, even Paul Ryan is offering his support.
"Mayor Emanuel is right today in saying that this teacher's union strike is unnecessary and wrong," Ryan said in Portland, Ore., according to a pool report transcript. "We know that Rahm is not going to support our campaign, but on this issue and this day we stand with Mayor Rahm Emanuel."
Imagine the outcry from Rahm Emanuel if he were still Obama's Chief of Staff and the mayor of Chicago were a Republican.  It would have been "solidarity" all the way.  Now he wants to negotiate because "this is a strike of choice" that is "unnecessary."  If it is so "unnecessary" and Rahm is so reasonable, why did the teachers decide to go on strike for the first time in 25 years?

Could it be that Rahm only touts the liberal line when it benefits him?  Looks like karma from here.

Why If We Are In A Recovery Is "It's Still The Economy, Stupid?"

John Taylor and Russ Roberts of the Hoover Institute have a great video [below] that explains why this is a recovery that does not feel like a recovery.  These are two key clips from that video:

The percentage of the population that is working has remained negative... no recovery in employment despite bailouts and "quantitative easings."

The growth in the Gross Domestic Product has been anemic... averaging less than 3% from a trough.

Here is the video and it's worth watching... even if it is about economics.

How The U.S. Military Forgot To Fight A War

SEARCH BLOG: MILITARY.

Many of us who have been around long enough to remember when U.S. history was taught in schools and when "modern" U.S. history included study of WWII appreciate what Rep. Allen West [retired Lt. Col.] is saying in this video.  The problem isn't a new one.  It began with Vietnam and has continued through today: a lack of strategic and operational vision in the conduct of warfare.

We shake our heads at the "nation building" and the "rules of engagement" and the "cultural sensitivity training" that come from the minds and mouths of what now pass as military leadership.  Just once, we'd like to hear a modern general say the equivalent of "nuts" to all of this politically-correct nonsense.

This is a longish video, but worth watching, especially if you know someone in the military.  h/t The Right Planet.

Socialist Austerity Plan For France

SEARCH BLOG: HOLLANDE

From The Wall Street Journal:

PARIS—French President François Hollande on Sunday sought to brace the nation for its toughest budgetary effort of the past six decades, as he outlined a raft of austerity measures—including a controversial tax on the rich—to shore up public finances.
In a television interview, Mr. Hollande said he has given himself two years to turn around France's economy and acknowledged the gravity of that task. He said the country's growth prospects have clearly deteriorated and significantly downgraded the growth forecasts to "barely above zero" for this year and "about 0.8%" for 2013.
France's first Socialist president in 17 years used his prime-time television slot to seek to counter criticism that he is moving too slowly to fix France's problems and that he has failed to be decisive.
"I'm not going to do in four months what my predecessors haven't done in five or 10 years," said Mr. Hollande. "I am in combat mode." He said he was "accelerating things."
Mr. Hollande said his government would propose a budget this month packed with as much as €20 billion ($25.6 billion) in new taxes and €10 billion in spending cuts. He confirmed that the budget will include a special 75% tax for people earning more than €1 million a year that has fanned fears of an exodus of France's wealthiest citizens. [full article]
If we look at the plan, it has elements called for by the U.S. progressives and conservatives:
  • Cut spending
  • Increase Taxes
What is likely to happen?  The French will go on strike demanding more spending and less taxes... except maybe for the 75% tax on higher incomes.  The French economy will continue to languish.

What about the U.S.?  Obama will be re-elected on promises of more spending [maybe a "quantitative easing 4"] and higher taxes for those making more than $250,000.  The U.S. economy will continue to languish.

Works for France; works for the U.S.
The French tax office doesn't disclose data on French fiscal residents moving abroad, a spokesman said, citing the fact that tax is a confidential matter. But private bankers and tax lawyers around the country have spoken of a surge in requests from clients to help them relocate abroad.
"A lot of people have already left," said Arnaud Jamin, a tax lawyer at Fidal Associés law firm in Paris. He said the 75% tax rate "will be an additional signal to those who have a certain wealth, substantial income and who more and more tend to see themselves as persecuted by the administration."
Wonder where they are going?  Wonder where we will go?

U.S. Soldiers Not Respecting Cultural Diversity

SEARCH BLOG: MILITARY.

Could you?

The report is based upon extensive interviews with U.S. and N.A.T.O. troops. It shows they are disgusted with, and highly suspicious of, the Islamically sanctioned practices and behaviors of their Afghan military allies, the Afghan National Security Forces (A.N.S.F.) and A.N.A., as well as Afghan civilians:
US soldiers … reported pervasive illicit drug use, massive thievery, personal instability, dishonesty, no integrity, incompetence, unsafe weapons handling, corrupt officers, no real NCO [non-commissioned officer] corps, covert alliances/informal treaties with insurgents, high AWOL rates, bad morale, laziness, repulsive hygiene, and the torture of dogs (“given the standing of dogs in Islam.”). Perceptions of civilians were also negative stemming from their insurgent sympathies and cruelty towards women and children.
The report also noted,
… numerous accounts of Canadian troops in Kandahar complaining about the rampant sexual abuse of children they have witnessed ANSF personnel commit, including the cultural practice of bacha bazi [dancing boys], as well as the raping and sodomizing of little boys …
U.S. soldiers were thoroughly revolted by such “abuse and neglect” of Afghan children, while excoriating the “poor treatment and virtual slavery of women in Afghan society,” which they found “repugnant.” [full article]
In March 2012, the military got sensitive:

12 News KBMT and K-JAC. News, Weather and Sports for SE Texas

Yes, soldiers must learn to respect the "culture" to win the "hearts and minds" of the people.  How's that working out?
At least thirty coalition service members have died this year at the hands of Afghan forces or insurgents disguised in Afghan uniforms, according to an Associated Press tally -- a dramatic rise from past years. The assaults have cast a shadow of mistrust over U.S. efforts to train Afghan soldiers and police more than 10 years after the U.S.-led invasion to topple the Taliban's regime for sheltering the al-Qaida leadership. Justice Elena Kagen: Supreme Court Decisions Not Affected By Politics

SEARCH BLOG: SUPREME COURT.

Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagen was in Detroit on Friday.  Contrary to perceptions about the nine justices tending to vote along Democratic Party or Republican Party lines, she said that sort of partisan politics doesn't happen in the Supreme Court.  From The Detroit News:

Kagan says politics doesn't rule on Supreme Court

Ann Arbor — The Supreme Court's newest justice said Friday she isn't fazed by the political controversy and protests surrounding high-profile cases such as this summer's decision on the Affordable Care Act.
In fact, Elena Kagan said, it doesn't affect any of her colleagues in their decisions.  [full article here]
That is, no doubt, an accurate statement.  Rather, the justices tend to vote along their liberal or conservative philosophical thinking.  It just so happens that liberal judges tend to have been nominated and confirmed under Democratic Party administrations while conservative judges tend to have been nominated and confirmed under Republican Party administrations... so their thinking aligns with the political party that brought them to the Supreme Court.

Affordable Care Act where the liberal [Democratic Party judges] voted to uphold the constitutionality of the individual mandate [tax] while the conservative [Republican Party judges] voted to strike down the mandate on Constitutional grounds.  Chief Justice Roberts was swing vote and he broke away from the party alignment generality.

It would be interesting to review Justice Kagen's positions when there were split votes.  Some votes are unanimous indicating a clear legal answer.  It's the split votes that demonstrate the alignment with party or philosophy.

Obama Tries To Ignore Jobs And Economy

SEARCH BLOG: ECONOMY and OBAMA.

Despite the rosy rhetoric from the Democratic National Convention, it is becoming increasingly clear that President Obama's performance in office ... sucks big time.

From Yahoo Finance:

According to this morning's report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate for August fell to 8.1% compared to 8.3% in July. If you like your news positive and grossly oversimplified stop reading now; the details on the report are hideous.
Consider:
  • Nonfarm Payroll Employment rose by 96k compared to estimates of 125k - 130k and a far cry from the average growth of 139k in 2012. Last year the average monthly gain was 153k.
  • July's NFP number was revised lower from 163k to 141k.
  • The greatest gains came from the food services and drinking sector. In other words, from waiting tables or bartending. These are some of the most brutal, lowest paying jobs extant.
  • The labor force participation rate fell to 63.5%, the lowest read in over 30 years. When this number goes down so does the stated unemployment rate. To get to 8.1% unemployment, 368,000 Americans had to drop out of the labor force.
No matter what you hear or read elsewhere, America's job picture is getting worse. Much, much worse. [full article]

Obama goes full witchcraft by telling voters they 'can do something about' droughts and floods and wildfires -- Climate Depot Responds

President Barack Obama's Democratic National Convention speech declared that American voters can "do something about" extreme weather by supporting his re-election.
Obama: "And yes, my plan will continue to reduce the carbon pollution that is heating our planet – because climate change is not a hoax. More droughts and floods and wildfires are not a joke. They're a threat to our children's future. And in this election, you can do something about it." FEDERAL RESERVE & HOUSING

SEARCH BLOG: FEDERAL RESERVE for full versions... or use the Blog Archive pulldown menu.

February 3, 2006
Go back to 1999-2000 and see what the Fed did. They are following the same pattern for 2005-06. If it ain't broke, the Fed will fix it... and good!
August 29, 2006 The Federal Reserve always acts on old information... and is the only cause of U.S. recessions.
December 5, 2006 Last spring I wrote about what I saw to be a sharp downturn in the economy in the "rustbelt" states, particularly Michigan.
March 28, 2007
The Federal Reserve sees no need to cut interest rates in the light of adverse recent economic data, Ben Bernanke said on Wednesday.
The Fed chairman said ”to date, the incoming data have supported the view that the current stance of policy is likely to foster sustainable economic growth and a gradual ebbing in core inflation”.

July 21, 2007 My guess is that if there is an interest rate change, a cut is more likely than an increase. The key variables to be watching at this point are real estate prices and the inventory of unsold homes.
August 11, 2007 I suspect that within 6 months the Federal Reserve will be forced to lower interest rates before housing becomes a black hole.
September 11, 2007 It only means that the overall process has flaws guaranteeing it will be slow in responding to changes in the economy... and tend to over-react as a result.
September 18, 2007 I think a 4% rate is really what is needed to turn the economy back on the right course. The rate may not get there, but more cuts will be needed with employment rates down and foreclosure rates up.
October 25, 2007 How long will it be before I will be able to write: "The Federal Reserve lowered its lending rate to 4% in response to the collapse of the U.S. housing market and massive numbers of foreclosures that threaten the banking and mortgage sectors."
November 28, 2007 FED VICE CHAIRMAN DONALD KOHN
"Should the elevated turbulence persist, it would increase the possibility of further tightening in financial conditions for households and businesses," he said.

"Uncertainties about the economic outlook are unusually high right now," he said. "These uncertainties require flexible and pragmatic policymaking -- nimble is the adjective I used a few weeks ago."

December 11, 2007 Somehow the Fed misses the obvious.
fed_rate_moves_425_small.gif

December 13, 2007 [from The Christian Science Monitor]
"The odds of a recession are now above 50 percent," says Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Economy.com. "We are right on the edge of a recession in part because of the Fed's reluctance to reduce interest rates more aggressively." [see my comments of September 11]
January 7, 2008 The real problem now is that consumers can't rescue the economy and manufacturing, which is already weakening, will continue to weaken. We've gutted the forces that could avoid a downturn. The question is not whether there will be a recession, but can it be dampened sufficiently so that it is very short.
January 11, 2008 This is death by a thousand cuts.
January 13, 2008 [N.Y. Times]
“The question is not whether we will have a recession, but how deep and prolonged it will be,” said David Rosenberg, the chief North American economist at Merrill Lynch. “Even if the Fed’s moves are going to work, it will not show up until the later part of 2008 or 2009.
January 17, 2008 A few days ago, Anna Schwartz, nonagenarian economist, implicated the Federal Reserve as the cause of the present lending crisis [from the Telegraph - UK]:
The high priestess of US monetarism - a revered figure at the Fed - says the central bank is itself the chief cause of the credit bubble, and now seems stunned as the consequences of its own actions engulf the financial system. "The new group at the Fed is not equal to the problem that faces it," she says, daring to utter a thought that fellow critics mostly utter sotto voce.
January 22, 2008 The cut has become infected and a limb is in danger. Ben Bernanke is panicking and the Fed has its emergency triage team cutting rates... this time by 3/4%. ...

What should the Federal Reserve do now? Step back... and don't be so anxious to raise rates at the first sign of economic improvement.
Individuals and businesses need stability in their financial cost structures so that they can plan effectively and keep their ships afloat. Wildly fluctuating rates... regardless of what the absolute levels are... create problems. Either too much spending or too much fear. It's just not that difficult to comprehend. Why has it been so difficult for the Fed?
