We were supposed to be home now. After two great weeks in San Francisco visiting my oldest son's family, we were ready to head to the airport. But first I checked the flight status to be sure all was well. It was not. Our flight to Denver was delayed by 80 minutes. No big deal except the connecting flight would leave 70 minutes after our original arrival time.
I check with the airline to see if they could tell me whether the plane we were connecting with in Denver would be held for all of the late arrivals from San Francisco. No, they couldn't tell me. I'd have to go to the airport in San Francisco to find out.
As we got close to the airport, my son said, "Why don't you just reschedule for tomorrow." I said that the representative I talked with would not offer that as an option. The only option we were offered was the "first available" flight with seats. That would be a 10-hour layover at the Denver airport. He urged me to call again, so I did.
This time the representative was very helpful and arranged a complete switch to the same flights one day later... even verifying our seats and saying we would receive an email confirmation. So, when I check my email, the confirmation was there... except the seats said "N/A". There was another email that said check in online for the rescheduled flights, so I started the process. Big mistake.
When I got to the part about the seats, it showed us in the wrong seats, not the upgraded, extra-legroom seats I had paid for. So, I made my third call to the airline. This representative was very friendly and confirmed that the reservations showed the seat upgrade. Then she said there was a problem. I had started the online check-in so she couldn't make any changes. In order to get the seats I wanted, I would have to do that online... and pay a second time. Or wait until I arrived at the airport to see if I could still get the seats that were paid for and promised.
By then, I was just too tired to mess around with the process. My wife and I will go a little early tomorrow and see if we can get it all straightened out.
When we take our next trip in July... I'm driving.
Oh, that connecting flight? It left ten minutes before the flight from San Francisco arrived. Rescheduling was a good call.
